Alt Text Generator

Alt text is a short written description of an image, stored in the alt attribute, that screen readers read aloud and that shows when an image fails to load. This tool formats a description you type into clear alt text options. It does not look at the image itself.

💡 Tip: Alt text should describe the important meaning of the image. Don't stuff keywords just for SEO. Decorative images can use an empty alt attribute: alt="".

How to use it

  1. Describe what the image shows, for example “woman using a laptop in a café”.
  2. Choose the image type: informational, product or logo.
  3. Optionally add a keyword. It is used only if it fits naturally.
  4. Select Generate Alt Text, pick the version that fits, and copy it or the HTML.

Writing good alt text

  • Describe the information the image adds, not every pixel.
  • Skip “image of” unless the type matters (for example, a screenshot or illustration).
  • For product photos, include the product name and the key visible detail, such as colour or angle.
  • For logos, use the company name.
  • Decorative images should have an empty alt="" so screen readers skip them.

Keyword stuffing alt text harms accessibility and doesn’t help rankings.

For complex charts, put the key data in the page text too; alt text works best for short summaries.

Adding alt text in WordPress

Select the image in the Media Library or the block/Elementor image widget and fill in Alternative Text. Alt text set in the Media Library is used by default wherever that image is inserted, so it’s worth getting right once.

Frequently asked questions
