Heading Structure Checker
A heading structure checker lists a page’s H1–H6 headings as an outline and flags problems such as more than one H1, empty headings or jumps from H2 straight to H4.

Heading Structure Checker
See your page's H1 to H6 heading structure in a simple visual outline.
How to use it
- Copy the page’s HTML source and paste it into the box.
- Select Analyze Page.
- Read the outline and the Things to check list, then copy the report if needed.
Why headings matter
Headings give a page its outline. Screen-reader users jump between them to navigate, and search engines use them to understand how a page is organised. A clear structure usually means one H1 that names the page topic, H2s for the main sections, and H3s for subsections inside them.
Common problems
- Multiple H1s, often because a theme or page builder adds one automatically.
- Skipped levels, such as H2 to H4, usually chosen for font size rather than meaning.
- Empty headings left behind by deleted text or icon-only widgets.

H3 Which format should you choose?
H2 Frequently asked questionsEach H2 is a main section; H3s sit inside the H2 they belong to. Reading only the headings should give a fair summary of the page.
Fixing problems in WordPress and Elementor
- Two H1s: check whether the theme prints the page title as an H1 while your content also starts with one. Hide one, or change the content heading to H2.
- Skipped levels: in Elementor, set the heading widget’s HTML tag to the right level and adjust the size in the Style tab.
- Empty headings: look for heading widgets with only an icon or a space and delete them or switch them to a text widget.
Frequently asked questions
It isn’t a penalty, but one clear H1 makes the page topic obvious to users and assistive technology, so it’s the recommended practice.
Yes. Choose the heading level by meaning and change its size with CSS or your page builder’s typography settings.
