Image Resizer
An image resizer changes the pixel dimensions of a picture, for example from 4000 × 3000 to 1200 × 900. Enter a new width or height, keep the aspect ratio locked to avoid stretching, and download the resized copy.

How to resize an image
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- Type the new width or height in pixels. With Lock aspect ratio on, the other side updates automatically.
- Pick the download format and select Resize Image.
- Check the new dimensions and file size, then download.
Resizing vs. compressing
Resizing changes how many pixels an image has. Compressing changes how efficiently those pixels are stored. Halving both width and height leaves a quarter of the pixels, so resizing is often the biggest single saving for oversized photos. For the smallest result, resize first and then run the file through the image compressor.
Common sizes
| Use | Typical width |
|---|---|
| Blog or article image | 1200–1600 px |
| Full-width website banner | 1920 px |
| Email image | 600–800 px |
| Product thumbnail | 300–600 px |
Platforms change their recommended sizes, so check the current guidance of the site you are uploading to.
Tips
- Avoid upscaling. Making a small image larger cannot add detail; it only makes the pixels bigger.
- Unlock the ratio only when you mean to. Different proportions will stretch or squash the picture.
- The maximum output is 10,000 × 10,000 pixels to keep browsers stable.
Calculating a size by hand
New height = Original height × (New width ÷ Original width)
Resizing a 4000 × 3000 photo to 1200 px wide: 3000 × (1200 ÷ 4000) = 900 px high. The aspect-ratio lock does this for you.
Frequently asked questions
Usually yes. Fewer pixels means less data, especially when you shrink a large photo.
Keep Lock aspect ratio switched on and change only the width or the height.
No. Resizing is done in your browser and the image is not sent to a LIVETOOLSLAB server.
